Project RePaw: How I met Peikko
In this series of blog articles we will tell the stories of those dogs that have already found their new forever home through our Project RePaw. They may be part of a smaller hobby team, they may be living their best couch life or they may have moved to a whole new part of the globe. Wherever our dogs have ended up – we want to keep in touch and share their stories here.
Hello, I am Jenna,
I started at Bearhill 2024 autumn. I worked with horses before. After finishing my studies in Harjus vocational college I wanted to try something new and figured that dogs would be nice to work with since I love them and I’m interested in behavioral training.
I met Peikko in the first few months working in Bearhill and of course started dreaming about taking him. Peikko was super lovely and wanted cuddles, bit shy and insecure. At the time I could not take a dog so I took him in August 2025.
When I first took him home he was very shy and didn’t really want to be touched. I was really nervous and wasn’t really sure if it was going to work. But soon after a couple weeks he started to be more and more confident and showing his personality. And the more I got to know him, I started to like him.

He is a very sensitive, kind, smart and calm dog and lets me take care of him if he has health problems.
He loves food and catching a ball. We go on long walks and he has a really good recall so I can (most of the time) let him run free. We do a lot of recall training and practice walking on a leash. He hasn’t done that a lot before so he is doing circles around me all the time.
Peikko is just simply a perfect pet dog. He is good with kids and loves getting pats from other people. He is very good at behaving inside (most of the time) and knows how to take it easy.
Peikko isn’t a sled dog because he has spondylosis and is not interested in sledding at all. We have been practising biking and he has been helping me a bit. I massage his back pretty often to ease the pain that he has from spondylosis.
During the season I took Peikko to work and he quickly learned to take a spot on the staff house stairs where he could see what’s going on. He has a bit of separation anxiety so that’s why I take him to work.
Now after the season we are travelling in Norway and then we’re coming back for the next season. Now for the summer I plan on practising more biking with him and just relaxing and getting used to living in different places and meeting new people.
