Call of the Wild Tour

A 3 hour program with 1,5 hour self driven husky tour (travel distance approx 12 – 18 km)

Tour Description

Available 02.12.2024 – 12.04.2025 (after 30.03.2025 snow conditions dependent)

Get away from the city and enjoy the magical forests of the Lappish wilderness. The sound of panting huskies and snow underneath your sled is the perfect soundtrack for this adventure. During the tour you will drive your own team of dogs for about about 12 – 18 km. This is our most popular safari and a genuine way to experience the thrill of running a dog-team.

There is always a chance to spend time with huskies after the safari, learn some interesting fact about sled dogs and definitely make some nice photos for your memories to take back home. We have a nice warm place waiting for you after the safari to enjoy stories and hot berry juice with cookies.

We recommend this tour for guests ages 7 and older.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our minimum age for driving a sled is 17 years. We do not allow participants under the age of 17 to drive the sleds. Driving a husky sled takes a certain amount of strength but also ability to maneuver and think that a young person might still lack. If someone (even adults) can drive the sled is always in the hands of the guide of the tour, since they are responsible for the safety on the tour. To make the guide’s day that much easier, we’ve set the limit at 17 years of age. If an adult guest does not listen to driving instructions or it seems that their abilities to maneuver a husky sled have been impaired, our guides have the right to not let them drive, but to organize another way for them to join the tour.

Guests between the ages of 13-16 are considered teenagers. Unfortunately, teenagers will not be allowed to drive the sled themselves for the reasons listed above. Teenagers will be required to sit in the sled of the guide.

No, unfortunately not. For safety reasons we recommend this tour only for guests ages 7 and older. Small children get cold more easily and are more prone to frostbite. Our Call of the Wild tour has 90 minutes of driving time, which we deem too long for an infant to spend out in the cold. For your child’s safety we suggest looking at shorter tours such as our Happy Trail tour.

In general our dog teams can handle 2 adults and 2 children per sled. One adult will drive the sled, the other one can sit with the children. If the size, weight or amount of the participants in a group exceed the capacity of the dog team, we will offer to have the older children or adults join the guide’s sled.

If you have teenagers in your party, then they will be required to sit in the sled of the guide.

Please note, however, that the final sled allocation is always decided by the guide on-site.

Both of these tours include 90 minutes of driving time. The difference is simply that on the Call of the Wild tour children are allowed. Whereas on the Northern Exposure tour we do not allow children. The Northern Exposure tour is for adults only.

Yes, indeed, we provide transfers and they are already included in the price of the tour. We do not recommend that you drive to our kennel yourself as our kennel is remote and sometimes challenging to reach especially in winter. We do not offer any price reductions if you were to come with your own car. So we strongly recommend that you make use of our transfers.

We offer pickups from various centralized pickup locations in and around Rovaniemi. Those are:

  • Arctic TreeHouse Hotel
  • Santa Claus Holiday Village Reception
  • Lapland Hotels Ounasvaara Chalets
  • Lapland Hotels Sky Ounasvaara
  • Hostel Café Koti
  • K-Market Sinettä

You can choose your pickup location right away when you make your booking. If you would like to change your pickup location later on, please send an email to booking@bearhillhusky.com.

Yes, we do offer transfers also from the Arctic SnowHotel, the Vaattunki Wilderness Resort and from the Apukka Resort. However, none of these locations are part of our regular transfer route. For that reason we charge an additional price of 12,- € / person / one way for this.

When you make your booking, please select the additional product if you require transfers from/to any of the mentioned locations.

If you are unsure about driving the sled yourself, then we would not recommend booking the Call of the Wild tour. This tour is really for those people who want to experience driving a dog sled themselves. If you would prefer to have a professional musher drive the sled for you, then we would recommend checking out our musher tours instead.

Yes, we provide arctic outer clothing for this activity. It is already included in the price of the tour.

We will provide you with:

  • A complimentary thermal tube scarf (very cool with our logo)
  • A thermal outer overall
  • Woolen socks
  • Winter boots with thermal liner
  • Winter mittens
  • Winter hat
