Improving Bearhill Husky with Support from the EU

At Bearhill Husky, we’ve always been committed to offering meaningful, small-group sled dog experiences in the beautiful nature of Lapland. After the challenges of the COVID-19 years, tourism returned quickly—and with it, the need to improve our facilities to better serve both our guests and our dogs.

With valuable support from the European Union, we were able to carry out a project that helped us make some much-needed improvements to our operations.

Better Facilities for Our Dogs

One of the most important parts of this project was building new kennels for our sled dogs. These new spaces give our dogs better shelter and more comfort throughout the year. They’re also easier to maintain, which helps us keep everything clean and safe during both the busy winter months and quieter off-season.

New Trails and More Tour Options

We also expanded and improved our trail network. This allows us to rotate routes more effectively, which is better for the environment and gives our dogs more variety in their daily runs. With the new trails, we’ve been able to create a new line of tours for our guests, giving them more options to explore Lapland in different ways.

Improved Spaces for Our Guests

Another part of the project was building new facilities for our customers. We now have a better space where guests can get dressed for their tour in warm winter gear, and a place to enjoy a meal or hot drink afterwards. These small comforts make the whole experience more enjoyable and relaxed.

Built Locally and Sustainably

Whenever possible, we worked with local building companies and used local materials. We also chose traditional building techniques that suit the climate and landscape here in Lapland. To reduce our environmental impact, we installed geothermal heating in the new buildings—a more sustainable way to keep warm in the Arctic.

A Step Forward for Bearhill Husky

This project has allowed us to take an important step forward. We’ve been able to improve our facilities, invest in new gear for our customers, take better care of our dogs, and offer higher-quality all year round experiences for our guests with new equipment. We’re grateful for the support of the EU, and proud to continue building our future here in Lapland in a way that respects the land, the animals, and the people who call it home.
