Dog Professional / Guide

We are looking for an experienced dog professional to join our sled dog kennel team in Rovaniemi.
This position is ideal for someone with extensive hands-on dog experience – such as a dog physiotherapist, dog trainer, canine behavior specialist, or other highly skilled dog professional, who wants to work closely with athletic working dogs in a structured and goal-oriented training environment, and who is also motivated to educate others about proper dog handling, training, and welfare.
About the Role:
Our kennel is home to dedicated sled dogs trained for long-distance racing and tourism. The position combines professional dog work, structured behavioural training and seasonal guiding responsibilities.
Summer & Autumn – Training & Development Season
Summer is a serious training period in our kennel. This is not only about physical conditioning, but also about building mentally stable, well-functioning working dogs.
Your responsibilities will include:
● Daily care and welfare of sled dogs
● Structured behavioural training
○ Leash manners and controlled handling
○ Name recognition and response training
○ Focus and impulse control exercises
○ Group dynamics and social structure management
● Individual dog development planning
● Monitoring physical condition and recovery
● Supporting race team preparation
● Guiding kennel visits and presenting our training philosophy to guests
● Educating visitors, staff, and trainees about dog behaviour, training principles, and welfare
We take behavioural foundations very seriously. Consistency, clarity and professional handling are essential.
Winter – Tour & Working Season
During winter the role expands to include:
● Guiding sled dog tours
● Training and maintaining sled dog teams
● Supporting guest safety and experience
● Continued focus on dog welfare and performance
● Assisting with race training when required
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
● Has extensive professional dog experience
● Has strong knowledge of behavioural training principles
● Understands canine body language and group dynamics
● Is confident setting structure and boundaries for working dogs
● Is physically fit and comfortable in Arctic outdoor conditions
● Communicates clearly and confidently with guests
● Has a positive, calm, and consistent handling style
● Holds a valid driver’s license (preferred)
● Experience with sled dogs is an advantage
● At least 18 years old
● Multilingual skills, English is our working language, but other languages are a plus
